At half term Mr and Mrs Halliday took me and ten other people to Coniston to go orienteering.

We were staying at a youth hostel with other orienteering groups. The beds were comfortable but hard. The food was even better. Every morning I had the same breakfast: sausages, egg, bacon and tomato.

On Thursday and Friday we went on a course to get better at map reading and orienteering skills. In the morning we looked at map symbols. In the afternoon we went to do an event in the woods. It was great fun. We played sardines after the course. Me and Jessica (a new friend I’d made) went off to one of the controls to hide. After about ten minutes they found us so we kept playing like this until we were tired out. Well, I did any way.

Yes!! Friday was mine and Mrs Halliday’s birthday and I was excited because we were going to see Harry Potter 3. First we went to do an orienteering course. I got lost but so did so many other people because of a misleading path at one place. It was a woody area. After we had found our way we played sardines again and each time we did not find the team that was hiding. We went back to the youth hostel by boat. At the youth hostel we all went to the dinner hall to have a party, birthday cake and to have dinner. Later we set off to see Harry Potter 3. We all enjoyed it but were tired when we got back.

On Saturday we took part in an orienteering event. Some of the course was hilly. On the course we had to follow the river for most of the time. Since I was doing an orange course for the first time on my own I found it a little bit difficult but I got round in my own time. Sunday’s event started uphill and it was a long walk to the start. I did an orange course again but took a long time to find one of the controls. After the event we came home to Coventry. We all really enjoyed the trip to Coniston. We learnt a lot, and thank you to Mr and Mrs Halliday and Mrs Batten who looked after us while we were there.
